This amazing 20 Day tour of China is designed for those who desire to train in tai chi and qigong in the ancient places they were developed and are still practiced today. You will truly understand the profound and extensive martial and qigong culture in China while on this trip from Beijing to Shanghai, visiting the Shaolin Mountain and Wudang Mountain where tai chi was famed to have originated from. We will visit and train with famous tai chi and qigong masters while exploring the many great sites such as the Shaolin Monastery and the Golden Palace of Wudang. Along the way we will visit the Terracotta Warriors, experience ancient and modern Chinese culture in Beijing and Shanghai and cruise in comfort through the Seven Gorge Dam of central China.

Scenic spots: Tienanmen Square -- Tienanmen Square is the largest city square in the world, at 440,000 square meters, and can hold about one million people for public celebration or gatherings. In the square tourists can climb the Tienanmen Rostrum, attend the national flag raising ceremony every morning at sunrise, visit the National Museum of China, and go to the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong, in which one will see the body of the great Chinese leader.
Forbidden City -- Forbidden City, also known as Palace Museum, was home to 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the ancient time, the emperor claimed to be the son of the heaven and such divine place was certain forbidden for the ordinary people and it is why the Forbidden City is so called. Covers an area of about 150, 000 square meters, the museum is a real treasures house of Chinese cultural and historical relics, recognized as one of the most important five palaces in the world. The splendid architecture of the Forbidden City represents the essence and culmination of the traditional Chinese architectural accomplishment. In 1961 the Palace Museum was listed as one of the important historical monuments under the special preservation by the Chinese central government and in 1987, it was nominated as the world cultural heritage by the UNESCO.
Hutong -- The Beijing Hutong (old lane) areas have a very special and important position in the rich history and culture of Beijing. The alleys give a wonderful glimpse into the world of yesterday in Beijing. While visiting the Beijing Hutong, you can appreciate the dramatic changes that the rest of Beijing has undergone. The Beijing Hutong is made up of lanes or alleys formed by lines of pre-modern siheyuan, four-sided compounds with houses around a courtyard.

Badaling Great Wall -- The Badaling Great Wall locates only 70 km from Beijing. Constructed during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it extends in all directions which is the reason it be called Badaling. Badaling is the most visited section of the Great Wall. The Badaling Great Wall resound in the whole world, it is the first part which open to tourist of the Great Wall. Heretofore, it has welcome tourists more than 130000000. Nixon, Riken, Sarchel, Mikhail Gorbachev, Yilizabor etc, 372 mugwumps visited the Great Wall. On the Badaling Great Wall, you can gain commanding views of the surrounding countryside and get a strong sense of the overall grandeur and expanse of the world's most famous (if ineffectual) defense project. From Ming-era watchtowers, it's a pleasure to take in views of the ancient wall as it snakes its way into distant, rugged hills.
Ming Tombs (Ding Ling) -- The Ming Tombs, located in Changping District, about 50 kilometers from the northwest of Beijing, are surrounded by mountains on three sides. The imperial cemetery covers an area of 120 square kilometers and there are 13 Ming Dynasty emperors buried there (along with 23 empresses and a number of concubines, princes and princesses), thus it is also called The 13 Mausoleums. These tombs are the best preserved Chinese imperial tombs and have been nominated by UNESCO as world cultural heritage.
Sacred Way -- At a distance of 50 km northwest of Beijing stands an arc-shaped cluster of hills fronted by a small plain. Here is where 13 emperors of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) were buried, and the area is known as the Ming Tombs. Each tomb is located at the foot of a separate hill and is linked with the other tombs by a road called the Sacred Way. The Sacred Way inside the gate of the Ming Tomb is lined with 18 pairs of stone human figures and animals. These include four each of three types of officials: civil, military and meritorious officials, symbolizing those who assist the emperor in the administration of the state, plus four each of six types of animals: lion, griffin, camel, elephant, unicorn and horse.

Scenic spots: Temple of Heaven -- Seen as the most holy of Beijing's imperial temples, temple of Heaven has been described as "a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design". It was where the emperor came every winter solstice to worship Heaven and to solemnly pray for a good harvest. The architecture of the temple represents two themes: in the heaven and on the earth. The 6 meters high walls of the temple constitute a semi- circle in the north and a semi- rectangle in the south. This special layout illustrates an important belief in ancient China that the heaven is round and the earth rectangular. The northern section of the wall is high while the south is low, which means that the heaven is higher and superior to earth. The Temple of Heaven has been nominated by the UNESCO as a world heritage.

Scenic spots: The Qin Terracotta Army Museum -- The Terracotta Army Museum lies 1.5 km east of The Tomb of Qin Shihuang, who unified China 2200 years ago. Emperor Qin, from whom China gets its name, ordered the creation of this model army. It is certainly one of the most memorable parts of any trip to China. The site was made a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1987. The terracotta army itself was discovered in 1974 when some farmers were digging a well. It is estimated that the tomb took 38 years to build, between 247 BC and 208BC, and utilized the labor of over 700,000 conscripts.
Big Wild Goose Pagoda -- Located in the Cien Temple 4 kilometers from downtown Xian, the Big (Great) Wild Goose Pagoda is one of Xian's main landmarks. It was built in 652 A.D, designed and supervised by the temple's first abbot Xuan Zang for keeping the Buddhist Sutras and Buddha's Relics he had brought back with him from his travels in India. The temple's grounds, gardens, architecture and the Big Goose Pagoda are beautiful. Strolling through the many gardens or looking up at the pagoda is unforgettable experiences. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is one of the symbols of Xian and is a must-see for visitors to this ancient city.

Scenic spots:
Shaanxi History Museum -- Shaanxi History Museum is a showcase of the civilization from Emperor Qin Shihuang to the present day. The museum is housed in a striking Tang Dynasty-style pavilion and features an enormous collection of 113,000 historic and cultural relics.
Ancient City Wall -- Xian City Wall was erected in the 14th century Ming Dynasty, under the regime of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. The first landmark visitors will encounter in Xian is the ancient city wall, which stretches round the old city. The northern side runs parallel to the railway. Xian was originally a walled city, and even today the wall is considered a landmark dividing the city into the inner part and the outer part. The city wall is massive - tall, long and thick. The South Gate and North Gate are the two main entrances to the inner city. The city itself is neatly arranged along the city wall.

Scenic spots: White Horse Temple -- It is the first Buddhist temple established in Luoyang, China. It is said that one night in the year A.D. 64, Emperor Ming Di of the Eastern Han Dynasty dreamed of a golden man. One of the officials said the emperor had dreamed of the Buddha, a god of the West. Then, the emperor sent 18 envoys to Tianzhu (now India) for Buddhist scriptures. In the year A.D. 67, they loaded Buddhist scriptures written in Sanskrit and a portrait of the Buddha Sakyamuni onto a white horse and returned to Luoyang with two Indian monks. When living quarters for them were built in the temple the following year, the temple was renamed Baima (White Horse) Monastery.
Longmen Grottoes -- The grottoes are located on the banks of Yihe River, 13 kilometers south of Luoyang. They are one of the four treasures of grotto art in China. Work on the Longmen Grottoes began in the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) .On the cliff face and inside the grottoes and niches, 70 pagodas were built or carved in relief and 100,000 Buddhist statues were carved. The Longmen Grottoes provide important references for the study of ancient sculpture and Buddhism. In 2000, the grottoes were included on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list.

Scenic spots: Shaolin Monastery&Pagoda Forest -- Lying at the foot of the Wuru Peak of the Shaoshi Mountain to the north-west of Dengfeng County of Henan Province, the world famous Shaolin Temple is favored by nature with circling springs, flourishing forests, competing hills and sights of quietness and elegance. There are many noted relics at Shaolin. There are over 300 ancient stone inscriptions, some of them by famous calligraphers. The large mural of 500 arhats in the Qianfo Hall was from the Ming Dynasty. There are 232 pagodas from different dynasties, known as the forest of pagodas. The oldest one was from the Tang Dynasty. The pagodas are the tombs of the celebrated Shaolin monks. The Shaolin martial arts are an important part of the relics. The Pagoda Forest, about 300 meters west of the temple, is the cemetery of monks of all generations of Shaolin Temple. Composed of more than 240 brick or stone pagodas built in the Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Pagoda Forest is the largest ancient pagoda group in China. The Pagoda Forest is much valuable in the study of ancient Chinese stone or brick architecture.

The Yellow River Scenic Area embraces five scenic spots, namely the Five Dragons Peak, the Camel Mountain Range, the Yueshan Temple, the Stone Figures of Yandi and Huangdi, and the Ancient City of Liu Bang and Xiang Yu. Among them, the Five Dragons Peak is the central area.
Henan Province Museum -- One of the major 3 national museums of China, as famous as Shaan'xi History Museum and Shanghai Museum. The Henan Museum is one of China's oldest museums. It is a 'key' museum, with modern displays and exhibitions, modernized equipment, and a unique architecture. Located on Middle Nongye Road in Zhengzhou urban districts, it covers an area of over 100,000 square meters, and has a built area of 78,000 square meters and an exhibition floor area of 40,000 square meters. The exhibition hall space is more than 10,000 square meters. The building uses a combination of both traditional architecture and new technology.

Wuhan Wudang Mountain (B/L/D)

Scenic spots: Wudang Mountain -- Wudang Mountain, located in Shiyan in western Hubei, is both a famous scenic spot and the Taoist Holy Land in China. The ancient architectural complex on the mountain was listed by UNESCO in 1994 as a World Culture Heritage Site. Wudang Mountain is renowned as Immortals' Mountain of Taoism and the World for Swordsman. It is a famous Taoist center in China with a long history of Taoist practice and a profound Taoist culture. Tianzhu Peak, its highest point, creates a striking view of "One Pole Supporting the Sky." The natural scenery of Wudang Mountain is powerful and magnificent, tinged with some fantastically serene and charming touches.
Zixiao Palace -- The Zixiao Palace (Purple Cloud Palace) is located at the foot of Zhanqi Peak -- the highest peak in the Wudang Mountain Range, Hubei Province. First built in the eleventh year (1413) of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Zixiao Palace is one of the ancient palace complexes well preserved in Wudang Mountain. Setting off the best in each other, the erect pines and cypresses around, lush bamboos and flowers make the ancient buildings noble and beautiful. In addition, there are several places of interest near the Zixiao Palace, namely the Cijian Platform, the Yuji Pond, and the Yuji Bridge, etc.
Nanyan Temple -- Perching on the South Cliff, Nanyan Temple (Nanyan gong) is considered the most spectacular of Wudangshan's three famous temples, the other two being the Purple Cloud Temple (Zixiao gong) and the Golden Hall (Jindian). The temple was officially appointed an Important Relic Preserving Unit in 1996. The whole structure (hall-pillars, beams, arches, gates and windows) is created out of rock. The temple is enshrined with gilded bronze statues of several dozen Taoist deities. There are also 500 gilded iron statues of the heavenly officials on the cliffs, each about 30cm tall. With their well-balanced proportions, they are amazingly life-like.

Standing in front of Golden Palace, you can have a panoramic view of the beautiful scene of Wudang Mountain, as far as 400 kilometers away. All the peaks are stopping at the static moment, just like raged waves, which wonderfully advertises the holy prestige and lofty imperial power. Meanwhile, you can also view many fantastic natural astronomical phenomena and learn many widespread fairy tales.

Yellow Crane Tower -- Yellow Crane Tower is a famous and historic tower, often rebuilt, that stands on Sheshan (Snake Hill), at the bank of Yangtze River in the Wuchang District, of the city of Wuhan, in the Hubei province of central China. Tourists can obtain a fine view of the Yangtze River from the top of the tower. Yellow Crane Tower is considered one of the Four Great Towers of China. In its modern version it has the appearance of an ancient tower but is built of modern materials and includes an elevator. Displays are presented at each level. To the east on the hill, a large temple bell may be struck by tourists for a small fee. During the week-long celebration of China's National Day (October 1st), ethnic and court dances are demonstrated in the western yard.

As a must for travelers to Shanghai, The Huangpu River is not only the mother river of Shanghai, but also assembles the splendid tourist attractions of the city. In Shanghai, the Huangpu River cruise is a traditional tourist program. Scenic spots: Oriental Pearl Tower with Shanghai Municipal History Museum -- The Oriental Pearl Tower is located in Pudong Park in Lujiazui, Shanghai. The tower, surrounded by the Yangpu Bridge in the northeast and the Nanpu Bridge in the southwest, creates a picture of 'twin dragons playing with pearls'. With a unique design composed of balls and columns, the tower has become Shanghai's newest landmark and a big magnet for tourists. The whole design is rich in poetic and pictorial splendor, which gives the tourist the impression that pearls of various sizes are dropping onto the emerald plate. As one of the modern symbols of Shanghai, the 468 meter tall tower is the tallest in Asia and the third tallest TV tower in the world.The bird's eye view from the Tower is breathtaking, especially at night, when the nearby Bund is lit up. Municipal History Museum (inside the TV Tower) is located in the tower's pedestal, the Shanghai Municipal History Museum is a wonderful introduction to the city's interesting history. Multitudes of dioramas and models of Shanghai's historical streets give the visitor an eye into what life was like before private cars and skyscrapers ruled Shanghai.
Yuyuan Garden -- Yuyuan Garden is located in the heart of Shanghai's old Chinese quarter and links to Yuyuan Market. Built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty in the Suzhou style by a high official Pan Yunduan in honor of his father, the garden has maintained its classic beauty over the centuries. The Yuyuan Garden was considered the best garden in Southeast China. It is a renowned traditional landscape garden in Jiangnan. It is also a historical site and tourist attraction famous at home and abroad. There are hundreds of precious stele carvings which are done by famous artists in the past. The garden is a virtual maze of caves, gardens, rockeries, paths, bridges, and buildings. Even though many people have had a hand in rebuilding the garden over the centuries, it is seamlessly blended. Every corner you turn has a new surprise, and a total different view.
Nanjing Road -- China's premier shopping street, the 3.4-mile-long Nanjing Road is a must-see metropolitan destination attracting thousands of fashion-seeking shoppers from all over the world. It is the earliest shopping street in Shanghai. It is one of the landmarks of Shanghai. It's said that if you have never been to the Nanjing Street, it is equal that you have never been to Shanghai. Besides shopping tips, the most outstanding characteristic of Nanjing Street is the absolutely different sight at day-time and at night. At day-time, people may enjoy the green plants. There are more than 70 fragrant camphor trees, all kinds of flowers and trees. At night, colorful lights and beautiful music fountain make the street romantic. The cultural atmosphere is another sight in Nanjing Street. There are 26 culture facilities along the two sides of Nanjing Street. Owing to all these, tourists may taste the "culture food" of different places, appreciate the art of all around the world, and feel the connotation of different culture.
People's Square -- Like other squares abroad, you could also feed the pigeons at the People's Square, play with them. There are more than 1, 000 pigeons here! You really could enjoy yourself. The People's Square ranks the most important and prosperous area in Shanghai because of its geographical conditions and the developing plan of Shanghai. Around the square there are so many skyscrapers, among which the most famous are Shanghai City Hall, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theatre and Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. Therefore, it's the political, commercial and cultural center of Shanghai. You could always see there holds many ceremonies and the cultural activities at the People's Square.

The Bund -- The Bund is a 1.5-kilometer-long boulevard on the western bank of the Huangpu River. It is the long corridor of Shanghai. For more than 100 years, it has been the symbol of Shanghai. Shanghai people are proud of the Bund. It shows the culture of Shanghai and the creation of modern civilization to people. The architecture along the Bund is unanimously honored as a "World Architectural Fair", including all kinds of tall buildings like the Gothic style, the Baroque style, the Roman style, the classical style, the Renaissance style and the combination of Chinese and Western style.
